The vocabulary of a connected pipeline.
Revenue teams use the same words to mean different things. This is what they mean at Upstorey, across Find, Earn and Never miss.
Short definitions, written for founders and revenue leaders, not for a textbook.
Account intelligence
Everything you know about a target company that changes how and when you approach it: fit against the ICP, live signals, the people who decide, and the reason to reach out now. The output of the Find system.
Account-level rationale
The one or two sentences attached to every account on a ranked list explaining why it is there. Without it, a list is trusted by nobody and worked by nobody.
Buying signal
An observable event that can change an account's likelihood or timing to buy: a hiring spike, a funding round, a new leader, a technology change, an expansion. A signal does not mean intent. It means the account is worth a closer look now.
Buying window
The period in which an account is actively able and motivated to make a decision. Signals help you estimate when a window is opening, so outreach lands during it rather than six months either side.
Closed-won and closed-lost analysis
Reviewing the deals you won and the deals you lost to find what the winners had in common and what the losers were missing. The evidence base for a scorecard, instead of a template.
Compound
What happens when the three systems share one ICP. Signals refresh the list, content teaches you what the market responds to, conversations reveal what buyers ask, and each month's output becomes the next month's input.
Conversion layer
The systems that sit between an enquiry and a meeting: website chat, inbound voice, qualification rules, booking, reminders and handoff. The part of the pipeline most companies leave to chance.
CRM and calendar sync
Bookings, transcripts and summaries flowing into the systems your sales team already uses, without anyone typing them in. If it is not in the CRM, it did not happen.
Demand capture
Turning interest that already exists, a visit, a call, an enquiry, into a qualified conversation before it goes cold. Distinct from demand creation, which is the job of Earn.
Disqualifier
An attribute that removes an account from consideration regardless of how well it scores elsewhere: wrong geography, a competitor's customer, a segment you have decided not to serve. Written down so the list stays honest.
Firmographics
The structural facts about a company: size, sector, revenue band, geography, growth stage. Necessary for an ICP, never sufficient on their own.
Founder authority
The trust a buyer places in a company because its founder or executive has shown, in public and consistently, that they understand the buyer's problem. Built through founder-led content aimed at the ICP, not at a general audience.
Human handoff
The rule that decides when an agent stops and a person takes over: on request, on doubt, or when a conversation becomes commercial. Agents capture and qualify. People sell.
ICP (Ideal Customer Profile)
A description of the companies most likely to buy from you and get value, built from your own sales history rather than downloaded. At Upstorey the ICP is the connective tissue: it decides who Find targets, who Earn writes for and who Never miss books.
ICP scorecard
The ICP expressed as weighted attributes and tier thresholds, so every account can be scored the same way. Signed off by sales and marketing before it goes to market.
Inbound conversion
The share of enquiries, calls and website visits that become qualified conversations. The metric the Never miss system exists to improve.
Intent signal
Evidence that people at an account are researching a problem or category, such as content engagement or topic activity. One input among many. On its own it is a hint, not a handshake.
Knowledge base
The structured set of facts about your business that agents answer from: services, pricing logic, FAQs, policies, boundaries. If it is not in the knowledge base, the agent says so and hands off.
No-show recovery
The confirmation, reminder and re-booking sequence that turns a booked meeting into an attended one. A meeting nobody attended is a cost, not a result.
Pipeline
The set of qualified opportunities moving toward a decision. Not a list of contacts, not a count of activities. Upstorey's three systems exist to make it larger, better targeted and more predictable.
Pipeline leak
The point where opportunities disappear: targeting the wrong accounts, being unknown to the right ones, or losing enquiries that arrive. Every strategy call starts by finding the leak.
Qualified conversation
A conversation with someone who fits the ICP, has a relevant need and is worth a salesperson's time. The unit of output for Never miss, and a better measure than raw leads.
Qualification rules
The questions and thresholds an agent uses to decide whether an enquiry should be booked, redirected or declined. Derived from the ICP, so qualification matches who you actually want to sell to.
Ranked account list
Target accounts ordered by ICP fit and signal strength, each with verified decision-makers and a reason to act now. What sales works from instead of a database.
Revenue intelligence
Upstorey's name for the Find system: an evidence-led ICP, live buying signals and a ranked set of accounts, decision-makers and reasons to act. Targeting infrastructure, not a spreadsheet of leads.
Shadow week
A controlled launch period in which agents run alongside your team, with people listening in and correcting, before they answer alone.
Signal monitoring
Watching the market on a cadence so accounts surface the week they start moving, not once a quarter. Keeps the ranked list current as buying windows open and close.
Technographics
The tools and platforms a company runs. Useful when a stack choice predicts fit, integration need or a switch that is about to happen.
Thought leadership
Consistent, specific, opinionated content from a named person, aimed at the buyers you want. Not a company page, not industry news, not a content calendar built for vanity metrics.
Tier A and Tier B accounts
Tier A accounts fit the ICP and are showing signals now; contact them first. Tier B accounts fit but are quiet; keep them warm. Thresholds are set in the scorecard.
Verified decision-maker
A named person at a target account whose role, seniority and contact details have been checked recently enough to act on. A stale contact is a wasted signal.
Voice agent
An AI-assisted agent on your inbound phone line that answers, qualifies against your rules, books into a live calendar, confirms by message and hands off to a person when the conversation needs one. It introduces itself as an assistant.
Website chat agent
An agent on your site that answers from your knowledge base, qualifies visitors against the ICP and moves the right ones to a meeting without a form.
Weekly founder interview
A short, recurring conversation that captures your real opinions, lessons and customer stories. The raw material for founder-led content, so it sounds like you and not like a template.
Definitions are cheap. The system is the work.
